C'River Pensions Board: Cross River State Government constitutes committee to investigate activities

The state government has inaugurated a four-man committee to investigate the activities of the Local Government Pensions Board from January, 2017 to date, with a charge to ascertain the total number of pensioners yearly in the Local Government service.

The ceremony took place today, Monday 27th April, 2020 at the conference room of the Deputy Governor in Government House Calabar.

Speaking, the deputy governor, Professor Ivara Esu initiated that their appointments were based on merit which echoed transparency, integrity, honesty and incorruptibility.

He charged them not to compromise their assignment as government holds them in trust to do their job with all amount of dedication and diligent.

The deputy governor listed the terms of reference which include; to determine the total amount paid as pension each year, to ascertain the number of retirees not yet captured in the pensions payroll and stating reasons why, to establish the total number of deceased pensioners and possible dates of deaths in each local government council.

Others are to determine the amount paid as pension to deceased pensioners in each local government council and beneficiaries of such pensions. Finally, to investigate any other observed shortcomings of the board and to make recommendations that would facilitate the smooth operations of the board.

The chairman of the committee, Mr. Eke Eke of the State Internal Revenue Service thanked the government on behalf of members for giving them the opportunity to serve in that capacity.

He pledged that the committee will justify the confidence reposed on it.

The members of the committee are Director tax Audit and Investigation, Internal Revenue Service Mr. Eke I. Eke as Chairman, with Director Administration, Office of the Chief of State, Governors office, Mr. Jacob Udida as Secretary.

While Mr. Bartholomew Amanke and Mrs Ekeng J. Ebri as members.

The committee has four weeks to submit its report from the date of inauguration
